How to choose a keyboard — membrane, mechanical or wireless?

Membrane or mechanical?

Membrane: a rubber layer under the keys. Quiet, cheap, light. Enough for the office and home. Downside: after two or three years the keys go mushy.

Mechanical: a separate switch under every key. Precise press, long life (up to 50 million presses), the pick of gamers and heavy typists. Downside: noise and price.

Rule of thumb: under two hours of typing a day, membrane; heavy typing or gaming, mechanical.

Wired or wireless?

Wireless clears the desk and also works with a TV or a tablet. For gaming wired is safer: no latency, no battery. On Dona wireless models start at 62,000 UZS.

The US+RU layout

In Uzbekistan you need both Cyrillic and Latin. Take a keyboard with English and Russian letters printed on the keys; the product name will say “US+RU”.

What to ask in the live

In a live the seller types on the keyboard: you hear the sound and see the key height. Ask: “Are the keys loud?”, “Is the Cyrillic printed or a sticker?”, “How long is the cable?”. A photo cannot answer that; a live does in ten seconds.

Do I need RGB lighting? Not for work. Nice for gaming, but adds 30,000 to 50,000 UZS.

What is TKL? A keyboard without the numeric block (the 17 keys on the right). Saves desk space.
