How to choose a power bank — 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 or 30,000 mAh?

A power bank keeps the phone alive all day. The catch: the bigger the capacity, the heavier and dearer it is. Dona lists 42 power banks, from 81,000 to 560,000 UZS. The capacity you need takes a minute to work out.

How to size it

A phone battery is usually 4,500 to 5,000 mAh. A power bank delivers 60 to 70 percent of its rated capacity (the rest is lost to heat and conversion). So:

• 5,000 mAh: 0.6 to 0.7 of a phone charge. Pocket size, “to make it to the evening”.
• 10,000 mAh: 1.5 charges. The most popular everyday size.
• 20,000 mAh: 3 charges. Travel, two phones or a tablet.
• 30,000 to 50,000 mAh: 4 to 7 charges. A laptop or a long trip. Over 600 g.

Power (W), the speed

Capacity is “how much”, power is “how fast”. 10 W is the old standard, slow. 20 to 22.5 W is fast charging for modern phones. 45 W and up is for laptops. If the name says “22.5W” or “PD 20W”, it charges fast.

The airplane rule

Carry-on allows up to 100 Wh (about 27,000 mAh). Above 30,000 mAh an airline may object. If you fly often, take 20,000.

What to ask in the live

The seller holds the power bank: you see the weight and count the ports (USB-A, Type-C, Lightning). Ask: “How long to recharge over Type-C?”, “Two devices at once?”, “Is a cable included?”.

Is a cheap power bank dangerous? Branded ones (Hoco, Borofone, Ugreen, Remax) have protection circuits. Avoid no-name units.

How long does a power bank last? 500 to 800 full cycles, two to three years of daily use.

Is the mAh figure honest? With brands, yes. Ask the seller to show the Wh figure on the box: mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000 = Wh.
